I have recently moved into a townhouse. It is lovely except for my next door neighbors. They are a pair of lawyers who are savvy about staying within the letter of the law and pushing the townhouse association’s rules. They have annoying behaviors such as claiming unassigned parking spaces in such a way that puts the rest of us at a disadvantage. They drive their motorcycles off their patios, filling our homes with exhaust and noise, and leave on bright floodlights for nights on end, which lights up my window and is annoying.

The other neighbors have adjusted to this pair’s limit bending. I seem to be the neighbor most affected by their behaviors. Is there anything I can do? I'm about ready to lose my mind, it just isn’t fair.

But if you lower yourself to their level, fight fire with fire, it will be worse. If you are renting, perhaps you could talk to the management, and asked to be moved to a different apartment. Tell them why, but in a non-confrontive, factual way. If they bother enough people, eventually the management MIGHT deal with them. But, if you can move, at least they won't be annoying you quite as much.

But what you DON'T want to do is let it get to you. Some of my aquantances also have terrible nasty neighbors and they lost their patience and are now in a long and agonizing law procedures with he-said-she said, court ordered classes, and restraining orders. Don't let that be you!

What about your "right to peaceful enjoyment of your property"? And shouldn't the townhouse assoc be backing you like in the situation where they are driving their motorcycles off the patio. They shouldn't even tell them who complained. Just a suggestion - look into getting an umbrella policy with your car & condo owners policy. Hopefully your neighbors will change & decide to be good neighbors, but if there are any further problems under certain conditions your insurance would pay for an attorney. (try State Farm) Worth looking into I think. I will say a prayer for you & them.
