I use a water pick instead of flossing, and I'm wondering how long I should wait before I start using it around the tooth that just got pulled. It's been over two weeks, so I feel like it should be safe... but I'm a little paranoid. Any thoughts?

It is fine to use it in the extraction site, though be gentle. Warm salt water is good irrigation as well, and Listerine is always a good idea!

WaterPiks are good for removing larger chunks of food and debris from between teeth and under things like bridges and partial frameworks. However, it's important to know that they don't remove plaque from teeth. Plaque is sticky and adheres to the sides of the teeth themselves, so only mechanical removal from floss or a toothbrush removes that. Don't let an ad tell you otherwise! To floss most effectively, put the floss between the tooth until it reaches the gum, wrap it AROUND one of the teeth, and do a "shoe-shine" motion all the way up the tooth. Put it back in the same place and do the other tooth. Voila!
